Hardware Firewall Option

The firewall option gives you the option to open and close particular ports on the server. When this option is selected, you will receive an email from our server team giving you a list of popular software and pre-installed options, and the ports that each of these use. You can then select whether to leave these ports open or, if you do not plan on using the pre-installed option(s), you can have those ports locked down. You also can then have all other ports closed, or, if you want to install, or have installed, custom software that requires a specific port, you can lock down the server to all traffic except for that particular port.

SmarterTools Leasing Option

While customers receive a SmarterBundle license when purchasing a dedicated or virtual private server (limit 1 SmarterBundle per customer), we understand that you might have a need for additional licenses or an upgrade to another edition of the software. As such, through our partnership with SmarterTools, Inc., we’ve made available low-cost monthly leasing options for both SmarterMail and SmarterStats.

McAfee/Diskeeper Bundle

Diskeeper is the leading software solution to help protect against disk fragmentation. Fragmentation can cause your system to experience lag, long boot-times, random crashes, freeze ups and a wide range of other potential problems. Diskeeper Server offers real-time defragmentation, complete file and free space defragmentation, and a real-time dashboard that will give details about automatic defrag and the health of your volumes. McAfee VirusScan Enterprise combines anti-virus, firewall, and intrusion prevention technology that will give your dedicated server maximum protection. This protection will cover a wide range of threats including viruses, buffer overflows, blended attacks and malicious code, even those hidden in compressed files. *Please note The Diskeeper/McAffee bundle is offered as a monthly option and does not include ownership of the software license.

Dedicated Backups

Backups consist of two full backups and daily incremental backups (an incremental backup will only backup files that have changed since the previous day’s backup), and backups are stored for a period of two weeks. Each backup scheme has a quota of 3 times your hard drive capacity. Please keep in mind that while Newtek gives you the ability to keep exact, restorable backups of all files stored on your dedicated or virtual private server, there are times when data may become corrupted and unusable. Therefore, it is always a good idea for you to keep current copies of all site files on their own systems in addition to using the backup solutions provided by Newtek. Pricing on backups will vary by plan:

Additional IP Address (4 IPs per block)

Newtek provides two IP addresses with their dedicated servers and sells additional IP addresses in blocks of 4. All you need to do is email our Support Team, and they will add the additional IP addresses to your server in no time.

WebsitePanel is a powerful, user-friend hosing control panel that was built specifically for the Windows Server environment. MS DNS & Terminal Services

To keep track of numerous domains, Newtek includes a pre-installation of Microsoft DNS service with all dedicated servers. Dedicated and virtual private server customers are also given their own primary and secondary custom DNS. Keeping track of your remote server has never been so easy with Terminal Server; you can control every aspect of your server from your own computer. By connecting to your server through Terminal Server, you will be able to open the server’s desktop in its own window.

500 MB Shared SQL

Provided with each dedicated or virtual private server (VPS) is one 500MB SQL database, saving you up to $12,000 from purchasing your own SQL license. Additional databases can be added, and are billed based on your average monthly usage—$5 per increments of 50MB.

Microsoft IIS 7.5

You will have the ability to choose whether you want Microsoft IIS installed on your dedicated or virtual private server. IIS is a leading web server, capable of handling a virtually unlimited number of web sites. If you want to use your server as a replacement for your office machine, or for any other reason apart from hosting web sites, IIS may not be necessary for your configuration. In those cases, you can free up more hard drive space, and system resources, by choosing not to utilize IIS.

What is Extended Support? Extended Support is like having your own Advanced Support Team that you can contact to assist you with issues that you detect in your server environment, as well as wok requests, which include items like migrating services from server to server, or having us help you install software that we support on your server. Another way to think about Extended Support is that it refers to work performed on the server (at the request of the customer) that is outside the normal scope of general customer service and technical support (which is always free and available 24/7/365). For example, help with installing and configuring software that is not included as part of the hosting plan would be considered extended support, which is usually charged at an hourly rate of $100. Every Managed Server Care Bundle includes up to three hours of Extended Support each month. Please note that all Extended Support requests must be made using Newtek’s Support Ticket system, and unused Extended Support hours do not rollover.
