Mail size attachment limit?
« on: March 14, 2011, 08:33:40 AM »
Is there some mail size attachment limit in SmarterMail or its implementation at CT? I have a client who cannot send a 10MB attachment. Trying to get more details from him now regards what error message he is receiving, etc.

Thanks,

James

I have learned that the limit is about 8 MB.

Anyone having success using gmail or Zoho or the like for domain mail from CT?

Thanks,

James

This is tangential, but email isn't really good for large file transfers. You might check out file drop sites, instead. I just recently tried Box.net and it seems to work nicely. (I created a personal account so I could share files on forums, but there are business accounts, too.)

Lorraine,

I totally agree. I use dropbox myself, and love it, and I promoted its use to my client. However, this client receives some large files by email and wants to simply forward them, without the step of download and dropbox-ing etc. Personally, I don't like to send anything larger than a photo of a couple of MB by email.

Thanks,

James

We can make minor adjustments, but we really can't go much over the 10MB limit (including header) since it ties up a lot of delivery threads to transfer the data. The more delivery threads are stuck uploading large files, the less email goes in and out of the spool.

Thanks, I think I have got this particular client to use dropbox. I personally don't like to have large emails rolling around anyway, much prefer dropbox.

Why can you receive emails up to 30 MB but only send up to 10 MB? I would think the spooler issues would be the same regardless if it is incoming or outgoing mail.

You can try Gmail as it allows you attach files to 25MB. If you dont know how to send a video through email, especially the large files, just upload the video to YouTube and send it as a link.
