Setting Passive FTP for new SSDVPS

Hello Matt here with Tech Support,

I just wanted to pass a topic to our customers that has been brought up several times. If you would like to add additional users for FTP/SFTP access within the cPanel FTP users list, you must first enable passive FTP on your server. If you are familiar with SSH based commands, a very intuitive guide to enable "passive FTP"can be found here: https://documentation.cpanel.net/display/CKB/How+to+Enable+FTP+Passive+Mode

By default your server should be using "Pure-FTPD" as its default FTP configuration. Please follow the neccesary steps for this.

Quick Tip -
Before these changes can be finalized, please make sure you restart your servers IP Table Firewall. The syntax to do so can be found below for CentOS

The syntax is as follows to restart an IPv4 iptables based firewall:
# service iptables restart

The syntax is as follows to restart an IPv6 iptables based firewall:
# service ip6tables restart

As an added note, if you've picked up a hardware firewall for your SSDVPS, you'll need to open the ports that your passive FTP arrangement may try to use. If you're seeing disconnections in the FTP process just before your directory listing appears, make sure to review the "Enable the passive port range for Pure-FTPd" section of the link Matt posted, and when you've selected and enabled a range, request that range opened for the sources that will be attempting to FTP in.
